U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to face a potentially hostile reception from his counterparts at the G7 Foreign Ministers meeting this week, and that may be evident by the tiny red carpet rolled out in his honor.
Rubio arrived at the G7 Summit in the picturesque Quebec town of La Malbaie on the St. Lawrence River, and the Canadians – now in a trade war with the U.S. thanks to Trump – rolled out a red carpet they thought would be perfect for one of Trump’s team me.

The tiny carpet can be seen in photos greeting him as he descends the stairs of the airplane. A tweet featuring the photo surfaced, with a user captioning it: “I can’t sleep either. I’m trying to find things to laugh at like this tiny red carpet they put out for Rubio when he arrived for the G7.”

Rubio went to Canada just hours after Trump’s steel and aluminum tariffs came into effect. These tariffs have sparked retaliatory measures from the European Union and Canada, raising fears of full-blown trade wars with close U.S. partners.
Over the next two days, Rubio will engage in talks with top diplomats from Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan – all countries that have been left reeling by the new American president’s policies.
