The Canadian Government continues to update travel advisories. We saw several Caribbean hot spots under increased caution. That included both the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas, both under a “High Degree of Caution” warning. Still, the hotel areas are usually safe, but tourists should proceed with caution, especially when venturing away from the resort areas.
We have also seen “Avoid All Travel” advisories in recent weeks and months. In fact, hot spots like Mexico had various areas that were off-limits, including Reynosa, Rio Bravo, Valle Hermoso, San Fernando, and Tamaulipas.
In the following, we’ll take a look at the most recent “Do Not Travel” advisory listed by the Government of Canada. We’re also going to examine other updated advisories, including Greece, Japan and Australia.
Juba is the capital of South Sudan and the largest city that typically sees the most visitors. South Sudan is known for the White Nile, which passes through the country via Juba. It is also home to other attraction areas, like the Bandingilo National Park.
Despite its potential and safe areas, South Sudan continues to be under an “Avoid All Travel” advisory. The recent update comes from an ongoing political conflict that may result in a civil war.
The Government of Canada just wrote on its website, “Avoid all travel to South Sudan, due to armed conflicts, inter-ethnic violence and high levels of violent crime.”
The political situation in South Sudan worsened in 2018 due to the peace agreement being extended for two years. The transitional period is set to extend until February 2027, while the general elections are set to take place in December 2026.
According to the Government of Canada website, traveling in South Sudan is far from practical given the various checkpoints throughout the country.
“Many security checkpoints have been set up throughout the country, making road travel difficult. Vehicles are regularly stopped and searched and violence has occurred during such encounters. Restrict your movements.”
Other Security Risks:
- From December to April, violent clashes increase.
- Urban crime rates continue to climb due to the troubling economic conditions.
- Army and armed militia groups clash without warning.
- Borders are unsafe due to rising tension.
Juba remains one of the areas that is the calmest in South Sudan, but can still be unpredictable.
The Canadian Government Issued Another “Avoid All Travel” Advisory For Afghanistan
The government of Canada also issued a lengthy advisory for travel to Afghanistan. In an update on March 6th, the “Avoid All Travel” advisory was put in place due to ongoing terrorist attacks, kidnapping and so much more.
The Government of Canada wrote in a lengthy statement, “Avoid all travel to Afghanistan due to the volatile security situation, terrorist attacks, ongoing armed conflict, the risk of kidnapping, arbitrary arrest and detention, the high crime rate, and widespread violations of human rights by the de facto authorities. The security situation remains highly volatile and dangerous. If you are in Afghanistan, you should shelter in a safe place and exercise caution if you need to move to a more secure location. Keep in mind that you are responsible for your own safety and that of your family.”
Support in Afghanistan is very limited by the Government of Canada due to its Embassy suspending operations.
